Niedermayer family gives back through the Cranbrook and District Community Foundation

The Niedermayer brothers, Scott and Rob, are establishing a new endowment fund, the Niedermayer Family Fund, to give back to Cranbrook forever.

“We’ve been looking at various ways of giving back and I am excited to see the establishment of the fund,” said Rob.

Like many donors, the Niedermayers reserve the ability to determine annually which charity will receive the grant. The fund will be invested by the Cranbrook and District Community Foundation through the Vancouver Foundation and from the interest earned grants will be given to community charities.

The foundation currently has invested assets over $1.5 million dollars and have 14 fully endowed funds with a number of funds growing gradually towards the minimum amount of ten thousand dollars.

“We have talked about this for a while,” said Scott, “we have looked at various ways and this just feels right.”

The former National Hockey League employed brothers have young families and they feel this is a way of demonstrating civic responsibility to their children. The Niedermayer brothers grew up in Cranbrook and have been running the Scott and Rob Niedermayer Hockey School since 2001, attracting over 200 young participants on an annual basis, some as far away as Europe.

“With an endowment fund, and it is long term, we can see our money at work in the community,” Scott said.

The new executive director for the Cranbrook and District Community Foundation, Dan Williams, is excited about the new Niedermayer Family Foundation.

“The Niedermayer Family Fund is a donor directed fund, and this fund will play an important part in our community going forward,” Williams said.
